I started playing around with a 16mm Minolta in the mid-70's, taking pictures of the family vacations. I shot enough film that I was
promoted up to the 35mm format with a gift of a Canon AE-1 for my high school graduation, and began to "shoot for the sake of shooting".
My weekend trips to the mountains outside of Los Angeles were great excuses to shoot, I had a lot of fun, and I brought back some
images that reflected that. People that saw the pictures saw places that they recognized, or images that brought back memories of a
place or person.
Not long after that I started "shooting for the sake of sharing". I began to actually think about shots,
and try to compose and think about the lighting and how the image would appear on film. I started traveling further afield and thinking about
what I could bring back to show others.
That old AE-1 was stolen after 15 years of use, and was replaced by the Canon A-2e, and then later by the 20D.
Digital has opened up many more opportunities for me to practice my craft. The ability to immediately verify that the composition
and exposure is exactly what was sought after is a huge benefit.
I've seen some amazing places, and photography is my way of bringing that amazement back and sharing it with others.
Enjoy the photography, and if the images bring up any memories, or emotions, then I've fulfilled the purpose of the image. If you feel
like sharing those memories or feelings, leave a comment with the image.
